India PM brings 'Modi Show' to US for key trade visit

26 September 2014 Last updated at 22:59 BST

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the US for an official visit to boost bilateral trade and court the investment of US firms.

He will address the UN General Assembly in New York, before heading to Washington for his first meeting with President Barack Obama.

The cost of his visit has been estimated at over $1.5m, funded by private donations from Indian-Americans.

Analysts have called Modi's trip "a charm offensive", while loyal Indians in the US see the visit as a personal triumph for a man who was long denied a US visa over the 2002 Gujarat riots.
